Polish mezzo-soprano Marta Wryk is a recitalist and opera singer who performs throughout the United States and in Europe. In New York City, she has appeared at Symphony Space, the Caramoor Music Festival, the Kosciuszko Foundation, and the DUMBO Arts Festival. She has performed at Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg in Germany and the International Festival Art-Connection in Rotterdam, and in Poland she has performed at the Forum of Baroque Music in Warsaw, the University Hall in Poznan, and at the Chopin Konfrontacje Festival in Antonin. While a student at the Manhattan School of Music, she performed the role of Prince Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus, Mirtillo in Handel`s Il Pastor Fido and Third Lady in The Magic Flute. In summer of 2010, she covered Gondi in Maria di Rohan and Clotilde in Norma at the Bel Canto at the Caramoor Festival.
Ms. Wryk has been praised by Bruce-Michael Gelbert in Q on Stage for her “radiance [and her] clear sound and assured presence,” and by Roman Markowicz in the Polish Daily News for her “noble sound and natural stage presence.” Recently, Ms. Wryk won first prize at the International Voice Competition in Gorizia, Italy. Ms. Wryk performed in Symphony Space in New York with pianist Anne-Marie McDermott and in Kiva Auditorium in Albuquerque, New Mexico, with the pianist Kevin Kenner and the cellist William De Rosa. She has appeared in the Music at the White Hall concert series at the invitation of the Henryk Wieniawski Music Society in Poznan, Poland, and has performed at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory at the invitation of Dr. James Watson, the Nobel Prize laureate. Other recent concert tours took her to Pordenone in Italy, Los Angles, San Diego, Miami and Toronto, where she performed arias from Carmen with the Toronto Sinfonietta. In addition to musical performance, Ms. Wryk is a musicologist and writer. Her work has been published in Gazeta Wyborcza, Poland’s major daily newspaper, and in literature journals and magazines including Zeszyty Literackie and Arkusz. Her music journalism appears in Polish Daily News. She teaches classes about opera to gifted children through the Polish Children’s Fund’s Summer Workshop. She has received awards from the Prime Minister of Poland and the Ministry of Education, and scholarships from the Leszek Czarnecki Foundation, the Business and Professional Women`s Club, the Lions Club Polonia and the Polish and Slavic Federal Credit Union. She was also awarded the Carolyn Marlow Vocal Scholarship from the Manhattan School of Music. Ms Wryk holds a degree from the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw. She studied at the College of Inter-Faculty Individual Studies in the Humanities at Warsaw University, majoring in musicology under Michal Bristiger. She is a degree candidate in voice at the Manhattan School of Music, where she studies with Maitland Peters. Future concert engagements include recitals at the Kosciuszko Foundation in New York, Paramount Theater in Charlottesville, and in Teatro Comunale in Ferrara, Italy. Ms. Wryk will join the Chautauqua Music Festival for this summer. She will have her professional debut in the role of Aglaonice in Philip Glass’ Orphée with the Virginia Opera, where Ms. Wryk will be a resident artist for the 2011/2012 season.

Primo Premio 15° Concorso Internazionale di Canto Solistico „C. A. Seghizzi” – Gorizia 2009
Nata a Poznan (Polonia), Marta Wryk è vincitrice del primo premio al 15° Concorso Internazionale di Canto Solistico “C. A. Seghizzi” 2009 di Gorizia e al Concorso Nazionale Polacco “Giovani Talenti”. Ha anche rappresentato la Polonia al Festival Internazionale Art Connection di Rotterdam.
Protagonista di diversi concerti, ha interpretato un repertorio che spazia da Bach al Lied romantico, alla musica contemporanea. Nello scorso aprile ha debuttato alla Manhattan School of Music Opera Theater di New York nel ruolo del Principe Orlowsky in Die Fledermaus.
Tra i concerti più importanti vanno ricordati quelli alla Filarmonica di Poznan, il recital alla Wieniawski Music Society, al I° Festival Barocco Internazionale di Varsavia, al Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg (Germania).
Laureata con lode all’Università di Varsavia, si sta perfezionando alla Manhattan School of Music di New York. Ha seguito inoltre varie masterclasses con Ileana Cotrubas, Tom Krause, Helena Łazarska, Alison Pearce, Simon Standage, Wiesław Ochmann e Jerzy Marchwiński.
